Rawalpindi: The witnesses have changed their statements, which they had earlier made before a magistrate against the prayer leader (Imam) a mosque who accused a christian girl Rimsha Masih of blasphemy.
The three witnesses were produced before a session judge on Monday where they said they were subjected to torture by police to testify against mosque cleric Khalid Jadoon.
The cleric was arrested after the case caught attention of local and international media, for allegedly taping the girl in a fake case following the witnesses testified against him. The police arrested Jadoon after Hafiz Muhammad Zubair, one of the eyewitness, said before the magistrate that he (Jadoon) changed the evidence against Rimsha Masih. .
Rimsha Masih was sent to jail and latter released on bail from Adiala Jail Rawalpindi as the issue sparked heated debate in media with intellectuals critizing blasphemy law.
The hearing was adjourned till Tuesday.
