Pakistani social media users have been criticizing the West for its dual standers in allowing the certain elements to mock Islam and imposing ban on an advert in UK displaying a pregnant nun.
A few days ago Antonio Federici’s advert showed a pregnant nun eating ice cream in a church, together with the strap line “immaculately conceived”.
The Advertising Standards Authority banned a company from positioning such images, saying it mocked Roman Catholic beliefs.
A spokesman for the ASA said its rulings “must be followed and we are taking steps to ensure Antonio Federici do so”.
“We are continuing to conduct work behind the scenes, including with the advertiser, to ensure they comply with the rules.”
BBC on September 15 said “To use such an image in a lighthearted way to advertise ice cream was likely to cause serious offence to readers, particularly those who practised the Roman Catholic faith”
Pakistani Muslims are of the view that newspapers are allowed to publish caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) and filmmakers to make films that mock Islam but on the other hand the West bans release of such images that mock Christianity.
The US didn’t take any action against the filmmaker who made anti-Islam film “Innocence of Muslims” that sparked worldwide protests. A US ambassador was killed in Libya by an armed group angry over the film while the US embassies came under attack in most of the Muslim countries.
Taliban avenged the film by launching an audacious attack on a military airbase in Southern Helmand province of Afghanistan, destroying four Harrier fighter planes.
