Colombo: Indian team on Wednesday defeated the spirited Afghan team by 23 runs in the third match of Twenty20 World Cup at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The Afghan team fought till the end against the strong Indian team and scored 136 runs while chasing the target of 160 runs. Mohammad Nabi, who scored 31 runs, remained the leading run-scorer for Afghanistan accompanied by Sadiq 26, Mangal 22 and Shahzad 18.
The Indian bowlers wrapped up the Afghan team with only three bowls to spare. Balaji and Yuvraj Singh, grasping three wickets, remained the leading bowlers for India followed by Ashwin 2 and Irfan Pathan 1.
Earlier, Virat Kholi 50, Raina 38, helped India to set a reasonable target of 160 runs for the loss of five wickets. The inexperienced Afghan team dropped vital catches of Indian team giving chances to the strong batting line.
