Islamabad: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf who is also Minister Incharge of Information Technology chaired a meeting of the Ministry of IT at the Prime Minister’s House today to review its working.
The Prime Minister was briefed about the working of the Ministry as well as steps taken by the Ministry for auction of 3G Spectrum.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf issued directions that transparency and merit are ensured and the entire process is carried out according to rules and regulations.
The meeting was attended by Mr Basit Riaz Shaikh Advisor to Ministry of IT and Telecommunication and other senior officials of the Ministry.
On the pressure from parliament, federal government has already decided to appoint foreign consultant to conclude the transaction structure as per international best practices to ensure transparency.
National Accountability Bureau has already stated investigation against telecommunication companies that are to participate in the bidding on the charges of tax evasion to the tune of Rs.26 billion and default surcharge in it’s non-payment has also reached at Rs.21 billion, a total of Rs.47 billion.
Despite the strong parliamentary resistance, federal government is continuously pursuing this transaction to conclude it within it’s tenure.
