Brisbane: Pakistan U-19 cricket team will take on their arch rival India in the quarter final of the Under 19 world cup on Monday (today). Pakistani cricket team remained unbeatable in the tournament after defeating New Zealand, Scotland and Afghanistan in the group matches.
On the basis of current form, Pakistan are a shade ahead of India. Babar Azam and Sami Aslam form a formidable opening pair and both of them are in superb form. Aslam, in particular, is a major threat for India.
The trump card of India’s batting is their captain Unmukt Chand who is hailed as a ‘big-match’ player. He was ‘Man of the Series’ in the last two tournaments and hammered centuries in the final of both the tournaments.
In the bowling department, Zia-ul-Haq of Pakistan has already created waves and is spoken highly of by many current Pakistan cricketers, including Misbah-ul-Haq. He is a difficult bowler to take apart and India’s opening pair must be vary of him. Ehsan Adil and left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz are other bowlers Pakistan is banking upon.
For India, medium-pacers Sandeep Sharma and Kamal Passi are in astounding form as both of them have grabbed five-wicket hauls in the tournament, thought against the weaker teams. Aparajith leads the spin department and he’s a canny bowler.
The team winning the toss will have an advantage. Fielding first seems to be an obvious choice unless there would be a change in the nature of the pitch or weather conditions.
India lost to Pakistan in the final of the ICC U-19 World Cup 2006, when Anwar Ali blew them away, and they surely would look to seek revenge but it is for sure that cricketing rivalry between India and Pakistan, which has always been compelling and had generated tremendous anticipation among the fans and media alike around the world, would have a lot more in the quarterfinal which is not less than the final of the World Cup.
