Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) recently held an Inter-Departmental Badminton Tournament at its vast Sports Club in F-8, Islamabad.
“The PTCL Inter-Departmental Badminton Tournament is an exciting new initiative by the Company’s employees,” said President & CEO PTCL, Walid Irshaid, who was the chief guest on the occasion. “It is a unique opportunity to showcase the athletic abilities, sporting passion and team spirit of our talented and dedicated employees who infuse the same in their profession.”
Mr. Irshaid inaugurated the newly renovated squash court of PTCL Sports Club on the occasion, and also presented awards to the winners and runners up of the tournament.
The 11-day tournament held on July 9-19, 2012 saw 110 PTCL employees competing with dedication and fervor in categories of Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Veteran’s Singles, Veteran’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Twenty players competed in the Veteran’s category, 10 in the Women’s category, and 80 players took part in the Men’s category.
In the Women’s Singles final, Ms. Tasneem Akhtar brilliantly defeated Ms. Hina Khalid. In Women’s Doubles, Ms. Tasneem Akhtar again emerged victorious along with her partner Ms. Maheen Akhtar, by defeating the team of Ms. Hina Khalid and Ms. Azka Sadaf.
In the Men’s Singles and Doubles, Mr. Ashfaq Mehmood was the clear winner. He defeated Mr. Arif Ashraf in an enthralling Singles final before teaming up with Mr. Hamza Khan Niazi to defeat Mr. Riaz Saleem and Mr. Jawad Sarwar in Men’s Doubles final.
Mr. Behram Shahroukh edged out Mr. Sikandar Naqi to clinch first place in the Veteran’s Singles category. Mr. Muzzaffar Haral and Mr. Behram Shahroukh beat Mr. Sikandar Naqi and Mr. Syed Mazhar Hussain in the Veteran’s Doubles.
Ms. Maheen Akhtar and Mr. Hamza Khan Niazi defeated the team of Ms. Hina Khalid and Mr. Ashfaq Mehmood in Mixed Doubles.
