London: Legendary footballer David Beckham said he will have a role in the opening ceremony of the London Olympics going to be held on Friday.
“It is some kind of role in the opening ceremony which I am honoured to be involved in because obviously I was involved in the start process with this seven years ago,” The Associated Press quoted him as saying. “And for Seb ( Sebastian Coe) to have kept me involved, I’m very proud of that.”
But Beckham did not give any details to for the sake of national “save the surprise” campaign.
There are also reports that boxing legend Muhammad Ali could also be there in teh ceremony along with Beckham.
“He stood for so many amazing things throughout his life, whether it’s what he did in the ring or outside of the ring,” Beckham said at the Beyond Sport conference. “His life and his career was all about survival and he is an amazing man.”
But Beckham is saddened that he won’t get to play in Britain’s first Olympic football team since the 1960 Games despite making 115 appearances for England, a record for an outfield player.
Though Beckham is saddened for not being selected for the Games, he expresses hope to represent his country again.
“I’ll always have ambitions in football as long as I am playing. I might be 37 years old but I still want to continue to win championships, I still want to continue to be the best that I can be and continue to represent my country in any way, shape or form.”
