Islamabad: The government on Tuesday tabled dual nationality bill titled 22th amendment in the Senate, upper house of the parliament.
The bill allows dual nationality holders to contest election in Pakistan. The Awami National Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz opposed the bill.
Hadji Adeel of the ANP said that the passage of the bill would pave the way for Mansoor Ijaz type.
He said that Pakistani expatriates, who wanted to contest election would have to give up their foreign nationality.
The government’s allies the ANP and Q-League has been opposing the bill and the government needs two-third majority for the passage of the bill.
