Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday issued detailed judgment against former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
A three judge bench of the SC through its short order on June 19 had sent Mr Gilani packing, declaring him disqualified from holding office of the prime minister. He was also disqualified as member national assembly.
The 42-page detailed judgment is written by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the Urdu Language while it also include a 6-page additional note written by Justice Jawwad S Khuwaja.
The order said Gilani’s lawyers could not satisfied the court that a person guilty of contempt of court can remain prime minister.
The judgement said a person convicted of contempt of court could run the affairs of state.
The ruling said National Assembly speaker had no way except to send the reference to the election commission and she had no authority to ignore a determined matter.
