Islamabad: Presidential Spokesman Farhat Ullah Babar on Tuesday declined to the news reports which claimed that President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered the release of Indian Spy Sarabjit Singh and said that it was Surjit Singh instead of Sarabjit.
Earlier on Tuesday, President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered release of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, changing his death sentence to life term.
In a statement issued late on Tuesday night, the spokesman said that President Zardari has not issued the release orders of Sarabjit Singh.
” The person who would be freed is Surjit Singh s/o Sacha Singh,” the spokesman added.
He further said that Surjit was arrested in 1989, during the tenure of former President Ghulam Ishaq khan, and now after completing his life term the law ministry has ordered to sent the prisoner to his homeland (India).
