Islamabad: The Pakistan People’s Party has formally announced to nominate Raja Pervez Ashraf as its candidate for the slot of prime minister.
Speaking to media on Friday, PPP senior leader Khurshid Shah flanked by representative of coalition parties, said the PPP after consulting with allies decided to field Raja Pervez Ashraf as candidate for prime minister.
He said media was speculating following the Supreme Court order that the PPP won’t accept its orders but the PPP avoided the confrontation for the sake of democracy.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Thursday strongly opposed nominating Raja Pervez Ashraf and threatened to vote for other candidates if the PPP didn’t withdraw his name.
Senior journalist and Editor The News Muhammad Malik claimed the MQM agreed on Raja’s name only after PPP assure them of giving home ministry of Sindh.
The new prime minister would be elected today (Friday) during a session of the National Assembly. Another senior journalist Hamid Mir said the nomination of Ashraf was a clear indication that the PPP was in confrontation mood.
Quoting well informed sources in the PPP, Mir said President Asif Ali Zardari was of the opinion that he was being pushed against the wall and bullied by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Raja Pervez Ashraf is also known as “Raja Rental”,
