Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Thursday gave indications that PML-Q is ready to support Former Water and Power Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf for the premiership.
Talking to media representatives outside the residence of JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Shujaat said that his party was in a ruling coalition and it would support any candidate nominated by the PPP leadership.
“We will support whosoever is nominated by the PPP for the premiership. Whether they nominate Makhdoom Shahabuddin or Parvez Ashraf, we would support. We have no reservation against anyone,” PML-Q leader said.
The JUI-F chief in his meeting with Shujaat, sought support of PML-Q for his candidature for the election of prime minister.
Shujaat, however, said that being a senator, he could not vote for election of prime minister.
“If I had the right to vote for PM, I would have voted for Fazlur Rehman,” he said in a lighter vein. He also criticised the PML-N members for creating chaos during the Punjab Assembly session.
Fazalur Rehman called for creation of harmony among political parties to avoid any chaotic situation. He said that it would be better to accept a politician rather than accepting someone else.
“The country is facing political strain and the country cannot afford confrontation among state institutions. For this very reason, there is a need to forge harmony to face challenges,” he added.
He said that no one could deny the fact that the PPP had majority in the national assembly.
Responding to a question, Maulana suggested that the media should not give their proposals to politicians, as they knew how to deal with the situation.
