Islamabad: Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Thursday has opposed the appointment of Former Water and Power Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf as the candidate for the premiership and demanded PPP to appoint Qamar Zaman Kaira instead of him.
The demand came after the meeting of MQM delegation with President Asif Ali Zardari. The MQM lawmakers advised to replace Pervez Ashraf with Kaira due to his alleged involvement in the Rental Power case.
As many as five candidates from different political parties have submitted their nomination papers to contest for the slot of prime minister.
Qamar Zaman Kaira and Raja Pervez Ashraf have filed nomination papers as Pakistan People’s Party candidate for the slot while Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Sardar Mehtab Abbasi are the candidates of the Jamiat Ulemai Islam-Fazl and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz receptively.
