Col. James Johnson III, a former US Army commander, is going on trial on accounts of fraud, bigamy and conduct unbefitting an officer.
Johnson, commander of the US Army’s 173rd Airborne Brigade, is scheduled to be court-martialled on June 16, Press TV reported.
He is also accused of an alleged long-term extra-marital affair he had with a woman he met in Iraq, while they were both living in Europe.
Relieved of his command of the Vicenza, Italy-based 173rd in March 2011, Johnson could face multiple years in prison and a dishonourable discharge if convicted of all of the counts against him.
However, he pleaded guilty to most of the charges.
