Islamabad: At least 30 people including children and women were killed and many others wounded when a weeding bus fell into a dig at Kahuta road in Islamabad, sources said on Monday.
The sources said that the weeding bus, carrying more than 100 people and returning to Chakwal after the wedding ceremony in Rawalpindi, fell into a dig some 25 kilometers from Kahuta in Nurh village, resulting in the death of 30 people and injuring at least 70 others.
“The rescuers and the local people rushed to the spot and started shifting people to hospitals,” they said adding that the bodies and the injured were taken out from the bus after cutting the parts of bus.
The bodies and injured were shifted to a Benazir hospital and Holy Family hospital in Islamabad and a local hospital in Kahuta.
Talking to media, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Imdadullah Bosal has confirmed the incident and said that more than 100 people were present inside the bus when incident occurred.
“Rescue teams were facing difficulties in the operation due to the insufficient facilities,” the DC said.
“Emergency has been declared in various hospitals in Kahuta and Islamabad,” he said adding that the army was also called to cooperate in the rescue operation.
