Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has sent a letter to the federal government, requesting to take the custody of Dr Shakil Afridi, a CIA agent who helped US trace Osama bin Laden in Pakistan and subsequently got 33 years jail by a local court.
According to sources, KPK Home Ministry has asked the federal government to shift Dr Afrdi from Peshawar Central Jail, apparently due to security concerns emerged after secret reports suggested 250 out of 3,000 prisoners in the detention facility might pose threat to his life.
Media reports on Wednesday disclosed that Afrdi was not punished for helping US trace bin Laden instead he was handed down 33-year jail term for his alleged links with a proscribed outfit.
Afridi’s brother declined charges, saying he didn’t worked against Pakistan.
