Islamabad: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday chaired a high level meeting to discuss Balochistan issue.
Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani was also among those who attended the meeting.
During the meeting it was decided that a cabinet committee would engage the disgruntled Baloch leaders in talks.
The army chief also assured the meeting of army’s commitment in resolving the Balochistan issue. Speaking about the Frontier Corps role in the insurgency-stricken province, he said the paramilitary force was given in full control of the provincial government.He said the FC have no power to initiate any action on its own.
He said the FC would do what it would be asked to do. The meeting also agreed that all the institutions of the state would assist the provincial governments for the recovery of the missing people.
The meeting also deiced that post lying vacant in Balochistan would be filled in with local people.
Later in a media briefing, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the the army chief told the meeting that not a single soldier of the army was busy in any operation in Balochistan.
Kaira said that a steering committee would review the situation in Balochistan. He said that action would be taken against those who involved in violence in the province. He said the committee would produce its report regarding the missing people on weekly basis.
He said that government would also review issue of missing people and forced disappearances.
The minister said that the prime minister was briefed by the Balochistan governor, chief minister and other officials concerned during the meeting.
