Karachi: Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Sindh has called upon Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) to provide insurance facility to the doctors serving day and night in different hospitals.
They also announced to start token strike of two hour from Monday in each and every hospitals of Hyderabad City, Jamshoro, Karachi, Larkana, Sukkar, Sanghar, TMK, Thatta, Badin and Khairpur.
PMA also expressed grave concern on continuous violence against doctors including robberies in their home, kidnapping and Money extortions These views were express by Dr. Dr. Samrina Hashmi, President PMA Sindh at a Protest held today out the Karachi Press Club. Senior Members of PMA Sindh branch along with Members of Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and Lyari General Hospital Units joined the Protest to show Solidarity with their colleagues in Hyderabad.
Recalling the incidence, Dr. Samrina informed that famous neurosurgeon Professor Dr. Aftab Qureshi of LUMHS Hyderabad, has been kidnapped two nights back near Karachi when he was on his way to Hyderabad. In Karachi on same day Dr. Faisal Iftikhar was also kidnapped from Gulshan-e-Hadeed. Dr Faisal is the Sixth doctor kidnapped from Gulshan-e-Hadeed.
She further said that due to incidences of violence against doctors, they were frightened as they are becoming targets of crimes. Doctors are closing down their old practices and moving Abroad. The houses of Professor Fasih Hashmi, Dr. Irshad Shah and Dr. Zahid Shaikh were looted few days back in Hyderabad. The Police was contacted for action but so far no results are seen. PMA Hydrabad and Sindh met DIG Hyderabad Sanaullah Abbasi and requested him for action but so far no result has come out.
Dr. Samrina Hashmi, President PMA sharing her views on the occasion said that despite the non-committal attitude of law-enforcement officials, the medical community is still hoping the police and the AVCC will take concrete action against the responsible elements. Unrest among doctor community is increasing as they are feeling insecure. At present more than 70% of doctors are paying Bhatta to criminals in Hyderabad alone. We are against strikes as general public and patients suffer due to such steps.
She demanded from the government to address the law and order situation seriously, and get black sheep out of police force and post such honest police officers in their place as there is no dearth of honest officers. The Kidnapping has become a business to earn easy money. We are aware that Lots of Government officials are also involved in it . This is a democratic government, and we expect it to work for the people. The common people are helpless, and Insecure, They are already depressed due to unavailability of Electricity and Increasing day to day expenses, and Killing and Violence . We ask the Government where do we go from here. Our constitution tells us “Every citizen has Right to Life“ . Where is Our Right to Life ??.  Prof. Aftab Qureshi is a patient of kidney disease, his kidnapping can endanger his life. We warn that if kidnapped doctors are not recovered in 24 hours we would be compelled to extend the scope of protest.
