New York: United Nations Security Council unanimously approves UN supervision mission to Syria by 15-0 votes.
.
The resolution passed during the UN Security Council’s open meeting on Syria.
During the preceding, the representative of Kingdom of Morocco expressed condolence with Pakistan on Plane crash that killed 127 people in Islamabad the capital city of the country.
The UN Security Council unanimously voted to send up to 300 monitors to Syria.
“The resolution, sponsored by Russia and China, the nations that objected to tougher US backed measures against Syria, will allow monitors to be deployed for an initial period of 90 days as part of the UN Supervision Mission in Syria,” according to a text of the resolution.
The resolution urges Syria to “implement visibly” the cease-fire commitment, to stop troop movements and the use of heavy weapons in population centers, and to return troops to their barracks.
UN Special Envoy Kofi Annan brokered a six-point plan to end conflict in Syria that the UN estimates has killed more than 9,000 people since March last year. While the daily death toll has fallen since the truce, dozens of killings are still reported most days, with both sides accusing other of breaking the cease-fire commitment.
