Lahore: As the Pakistan Railways is on the brink of disaster due to its financial crisis and maladministration, a report revealed on Saturday that some friends of Railways minister and workers of the Awami National Party (ANP) were allotted dining cars of trains without any tender.
According to documents obtained by a private television channel, the political allotment was carried out by former Managing Director of the Railways.
Junaid Qureshi, a senior officer, said that extensions of allotment were given during his term. The documents revealed that the dining cars of four trains had been allotted to friends of Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour after cancellation of allotments granted through tenders.
According to the report, ANP Peshawar leader Qazi Hayat and Lahore chapter office bearer Sohail Akhtar were given allotment of dining cars of Millat Express and Pakistan Express respectively without tender.
