New Delhi: In a bid to ease business persons of both countries, Pakistan and India will soon sign an agreement for a new visa regime for businessmen. Zafar Mahmood, Pakistan’s commerce secretary, said on Thursday that the regime would make travelling easier for the businessmen of both countries.
Businessmen will be able to get visas for over a year and can travel to 10 cities in the visiting country under the new visa regime.
Mahmood mentioned that the formal announcement would be made when meeting between Pakistan Interior Ministry and the Home Ministry of India would take place. The meeting is expected this or the next month.
According to some experts, the new developments between the two countries are seen in the wake of President Zardari’s visit to India, what they call ‘dargah’ diplomacy.
The present rules restrict businessmen to stay at just one country where they are working. Against this backdrop, the new visa regime is likely to get warm welcome from the business community.
The latest initiative comes just ahead of the inauguration of the integrated check post at Attari-Wagah border today.
Pakistan has already agreed for giving Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to India.
