Istanbul: The US secretary of State, Hillary Clinton said that Syrian government led by Bashar-al-Assad should stop violence in the country and implement the peace plan of UN envoy Kofi Annan, media reported on Sunday.
According to reports, Clinton issued the threat at a conference of the Friends of the Syrian people in Istanbul on Sunday, but there was little evidence of coherent international action if he does not comply.
“Nearly a week has gone by, and we have to conclude that the regime is adding to its long list of broken promises,” Clinton told the representatives of 83 countries as pro-Assad protesters demonstrated outside the conference venue.
She further said that the world must judge Assad by what he does, not by what he says adding that US could not sit back and wait any longer.
It is to be mentioned here that although Syria agreed to implement the plan of Kofi Annan but failed to implement it as bombardment and attacks continued on the cities controlled by opposition and rebel forces.
