Dubai: The Afghanistan Cricket team has qualified for the International Cricket Council (ICC) T-20 World Cup as they defeated Namibia by 47 runs in the preliminary final of the World Cup Qualifier at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.
The Namibian team failed to chase a low target of 147 set by Afghans and were bowled out at 99 runs.Except Sarel Burger and Nicholaas Scholtz who scored 22 the other Namibian batsmen failed to cross 20’s.
Aftab Alam who took 4 wickets remained the top wicket-taker from Afghan side accompanied by Dawlat Zadran and Izzatullah Dawlatzai who took three and one wicket respectively.
Earlier Afghan team also failed to put a good show and were bowled out for 146 runs.
The Afghan Skipper expressed his joy saying “It is a big day for us and the entire nation to compete at a bigger level.”
“Afghanistan is no longer at a stage to compete against associate and affiliate members,” he said adding that now Afghans want to compete on a bigger level and the stage is there. The boys were up to that and they would do their best in the bigger scenario.
The success against the Africans confirmed Afghanistan’s second successive qualification for the Twenty20 world cup after reaching 2010’s edition in the West Indies.
