Karachi: Brigadier Ali Khan who has been facing trial in military court for his alleged links with banned outfit Hizbut Tahrir, was planning to establish Caliphate in Pakistan, BBC quoted an old friend of Khan as saying.
Head of Pakistani army’s Triple One Brigade, Brigadier Amir Riaz, told BBC that Mr Khan had met head of Palestinian Hizbut Tahreer.
He said Khan told him that the HT had constituted a constitution for Pakistan, besides establishing a shadow government that was ready to take over anytime.
Brig Amir Riaz, who has now been promoted as Major Gen, has been listed as a witness against Khan.
Mr Riaz said that Ali Khan, while expressing dissatisfaction, over the political system and military leadership and talked about bringing Caliphate in the country.
The BBBC Urdu reported that, according to prosecution documents Khan told one of his old friends that he had close links with Hizbut Tahree and had met head of its Palestinian chapter.
“Ali told me that HT has ability to establish Caliphate and good governance in Pakistan.
According to Brig Amir Riaz (now Major Gen) Ali said the plan could not be implemented unless the incumbent military leadership hands over the government to it.
He said that Mr Khan had told him that some elements in the Pakistan Air Force were cooperating with the HT and would eliminate the military leadership by bombarding Formation or Corps Commander Meetings.
