Islamabad: Mother Tongue and Heritage for Education and Research (MOTHER), a civil society organization, has been re-organized at a meeting held here in Islamabad under the chair of Dr. Inayatullah Ullah Faizi.
Representatives of 11 language communities attended the meeting and vowed to work together for upholding the cause of the organization. MOTHER is an umbrella organization providing a platform for the language activists, researchers, poets and literary people belonging to the language communities in Himalaya , Karakoram and Hindukush ranges for the promotion, preservation and development of these languages and cultures.
A resolution passed unanimously appreciating the decision of the Khyber Pukhtunkhwa government to establish a regional languages authority for the teaching and promotion of languages spoken in the KPK province. The resolution demanded the KPK government to get involve the language activists and scholars belonging to these speech communities during all the decision-making process and include them as board members.
On the occasion a new international organization called Consortium on Training in Language Documentation and Conservation (CTLDC) has been launched from Pakistan. Fakhruddin Akhunzada, Assistant Director of FLI and CTLDC planning group member launched the Consortium. He informed the participant about the objectives of the consortium.( International launching of consortium is happening worldwide with parallel events. It has already been launched in India and America.)
The organization decided to commemorate the International Mother Language Day on 21st of February as usual and assigned a committee with the tasks of making necessary preparations.
The new office bearers include Inam Ullah (Chairman), Ziauddin (vice chairman), Fakhruddin Akhunzada (general secretary) and Ishtiaq Yaad (joint secretary).
