Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced schedule for Senate election here on Thursday amid precarious political situation prevailing in the country in the wake of deteriorating relations between the civilian government and military leaders.
The Election Commission has said that the Senate election would be held on March 2.
Main opposition party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has been trying to bring down Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led government before the Senate election.
The PPP wanted to hold general election after the Senate polls as its is certain that  it would gain majority in the upper house of the parliament.
The announcement came a day after the Pakistan’s military publicly rebuked Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for accusing army chief and head of intelligence of acting against the Constitution.
The army’s changing of Triple 1 Brigade commander, which has been responsible for staging military coups in Islamabad,  led to speculations about possible coup on Wednesday.
