Lahore: Leading constitutional expert and senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan on Wednesday announced to contest the upcoming Senate’s elections.
The senior PPP leader, who was sidelined by party leadership for his pro-judiciary stance and active role in the lawyers’ movement, announced to apply for party ticket to contest the March 2012 Senate elections.
Ahsan, a leading lawyer who enjoy respect in political circles for his independent and principled stance, was in party leadership’s bad book until recently. Now there are indications that the ice between Aitzaz and party leadership especially President Asif Zardari has melted and his prospect of getting party ticket for Senate polls are bright.
