Karachi: A bomb exploded outside Karachi University, leaving two people injured on Saturday.
According to reports the blast, apparently targeting Rangers, occurred outside Gate Number 2 near Sheikh Zaid Institute of the varsity. Several vehicles were damaged in the incident.
Police and Rangers have cordoned off the area while injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Media reports say a man’s body parts were found shortly after the blast.
Eyewitnesses said the blast occurred when the Rangers vehicle was passing through a tree.
We cannot confirm that Rangers were targeted in the blast as it took place on the opposite side of the road where the paramilitary soldiers were patrolling, Colonel Shafique Niazi, a spokesman for the Pakistan Rangers Sindh, told local Geo news TV.
He said that the paramilitary force had been playing a key role in maintaining law and order situation in the city and the blasts could not lower its resolve.
Senior Police Superintendent Gulshan-e-Iqbal has confirmed the incident and said that the blast was of huge quantity, spreading panic among the residents of nearby locality.
At least three Rangers were killed and four others injured on the main University Road on Friday.
