Srinagar: Suspected militants shot at and injured an activist of pro-Indian political party National Conference in disputed Kashmir on Friday evening.
Police said suspected militants fired from point blank range towards NC leader Ghulam Muhammad Lone near Latter Masjid Safakadal in down Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian outside Kashmir this evening.
He sustained bullet injury in neck and was shifted to hospital, where doctors performed surgery on him. The doctors attending on him have termed his condition as stable.
Immediately after the attack, police and paramilitary soldiers laid siege around the area to flush out the militants responsible for the attack. However, no arrests were reported.
No militant group has owned the responsibility of the attack.
