Abu Dhabi:Pakistan cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by five wicket in sensational One-off T20 match here in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
Pakistan’s skipper Misbah-ul-Haq guided national team to achieve the target of 142 runs in 20th over with three ball remaining. Misbah was a top scorer of Pakistan with 48 run not out while Asad Shafique made 33 and Shahid Afridi scored 22 runs on 15 deliveries with two massive sixes.
Sri Lanka’s batting appeared to hit top gear for the first time in the limited-overs series as they began positively on a good batting track in front of a raucous crowd in Abu Dhabi but Pakistan’s spin attack and Aizaz Cheema’s great bowling in depth restricted Lankan’s to score 141 runs in 20th over.
Danish Chandimal was the top scorer of Sri Lanka with 58 runs while skipper Dilshan managed to score 28 runs.
Pakistan’s Aizaz Cheema was given man of the match. ” “I thank my coach, captain and family. In the first over I wanted to bowl line and length and thankfully I got wickets. It was a very good effort on our part to keep them under 150,” Cheem said in a post match ceremony.
The Lankan skipper said, “We were short by 20 runs today. We are not finishing well and we are repeating this mistake again and again.”
Misbah said in the ceremony, “It is all to do with the teamwork, including the management. We were under pressure when we started bowling and the spinners did really well.” he added, “We thought they were going to score 200 but we (me and Afridi) discussed that if we both stayed till the end we would pull it off.”
