Islamabad: A recent survey by Gallup Pakistan and other Globescan partners across the world revealed that the world is sharply divided between those who think of themselves as global citizens (51%) and others who do not (41%). Chinese (61%) top the list of those who think of themselves as global citizens; Russians (25%) are at the bottom with lowest percent of citizens seeing themselves as global citizens. In Pakistan, nearly one-third (32%) see themselves as global citizens.
Gallup asked people that “Please tell me if you strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree or strongly disagree that you see yourself more as a global citizen than a citizen of [COUNTRY]?”
The global survey was conducted in 24 countries across the globe covering Europe, Americas, Asia and Africa.
The global sample comprised 23,566 men and women, as well as those belonging to various age, income, education and linguistics groups.
The respondents were asked; “Please tell me if you strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree or strongly disagree that you see yourself more as a global citizen than a citizen of [COUNTRY]?”
Responding to this, 25% of the global sample strongly agreed that they saw themselves more as global citizens than citizens of their country, 26% somewhat agreed, 22% somewhat disagreed whereas 22% strongly disagreed. However 6% did not give a view.
