Lahore: Newly elected Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Yasin Azad has vowed that he would work for independent judiciary.
Addressing a press conference along with former president SCBA at Lahore High Court, he said that the procedure for selection of senior judges in the Supreme Court of Pakistan is right but some junior judges of Sindh High Court have been appointed in the Supreme Court.
He said that the lawyers shouting slogans during Lawyers’ Movement were made judges. Appointment of some judges was not made on merit, he added.
The institutes should work within their limits; otherwise Pakistan would fall deeper into crises, he added.
He also said that he would not compromise on principal stance. He also said that his success was the success of judiciary.
Former president SCBA Asma Jahangir said that lawyers’ community have reservations over making some junior judges of Sindh High Court judges of the Supreme Court.
