Bunbury (Australia): Tournament Director Graham Napier on Saturday banned Indian hockey team manager, assistant manager and three players for matches ranging from one to five while Pakistan captain Shakeel Abbasi was banned for one match for the violent clash between Indian and Pakistani players during a match of the tri-nation hockey series on Friday.
After hearing of both side’s version of the incident , Tournament Director Graham Napier clamped ban on the players and team officials. Assistant Manager of the Indian Hockey team Yograj Sing and player Chandi were banned for five matches while manager of the Indian side, David and player Toshar were banned for one match besides Gabraj was banned for three matches.
Skipper of Pakistani side Shakeel Abbasi was also banned for one match as a penalty for indulging in the physical fight on the ground.
It is to be mentioned here that hockey ground of Busselton turned into battle field when Pakistani and Indian player indulged in physical fight after an Indian player hit a Pakistani player with his hockey stick.
The players of the two arch rivals nations attacked each other with fists, kicks and hockey sticks after exchanging of heated arguments in the last moments of the game, when Pakistan leveled the score after goring down 3-0. When Pakistan leveled the score through a penalty corner in the last moments of the game, Indian players got angry and one of them hit a Pakistani player Muhammad Imran with his stick that led to the fight. Following the fight the match had to be abandoned over a minute earlier the allotted time.
