Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday sought report from the Ministry of Water and Power regarding tariff, losses and electricity generation in Rental Power Policy case.
An SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing a suo motu case regarding the Rental Power Policy.
Federal minister and Pakistan Muslim League- Q leader Faisal Saleh Hayat in his argument said that he would tell the cabinet that there was no need of rental power in the country. He said that the government’s negligence had proved in the report of Auditor General.
Hayat said that the government was not generating 6,000 megawatts from the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and inclined to bring rental power plants. The minister said that there had been possibility of producing 19,600 megawatts in May 2008.
“Being a minister, now you are in a better position to play role about the issue”, the CJ remarked. “There is an example of ex-minister Azam Swati who raised voice against corruption, you should follow him in eliminating corruption”
