Govt pressurized me to pass anti-judiciary remarks: Asma

Lahore: President, Supreme Court Bar Association, Asma Jahangir has alleged that government of Pakistan indirectly pressurized her to give statement against the judiciary many times. “If I so desired I would had created a scene with the judiciary as the President of SCP,” she added.

Addressing the lawyers at the annual meeting of the Supreme Court Bar in Lahore, she said that Pakistan is nobody’s land. The courts should use their powers to have their orders implemented because people have plethora of expectations from it, she said.

She also stressed that judges should be appointed on the basis of merit.

Talking about appointments of judges in superior judiciary she said that even a tarot-card parrot could make a better predictions about them.

She said that suo motto notice gives an impression as if the justice should be served on a silver platter. The media should not indulge in running its own suo motto notice agenda.
