Kabul: President Hamid Karzai is facing schism within his administration and criticism for his pro-Pakistan posture amid the ongoing blame game in the region.
Official sources in Kabul said that the Karzai administration is divided over relations with Pakistan after assassination of former President Burhanuddin Rabbani, as certain elements in Afghanistan blame that the plan was prepared by some individuals in Quetta.
After signing strategic agreement with India, Karzai had stated that Afghanistan and Pakistan are twin brothers and India is a friend. “Agreement with a friend would never affect brother,” he added.
The sources said that Head of National Security Council Rangin Dadfar Spanta’s statement in response to Pakistani officials’ participation in a conference that was going to be held in Kabul had annoyed Karzai.
But after the incident of Rabbani killing and the subsequent blames the group in the Karzai’s administration who have some differences over Kabul’s mode of relations with Islamabad was strengthened.
After starting of the blame game Karzai was already under severe criticism from opposition in Afghanistan as he was silent for long and didn’t want to reverse developed relations with Pakistan, the sources said, adding that Karzai still wants no strained relations with Pakistan and trying to control the opposition.
