Kabul: At least five NATO soldiers have been killed in road side bomb blasts in eastern and western Afghanistan.
Italian Foreign Ministry has confirmed the casualties of three Italian soldiers in a road accident in Herat Province in western Afghanistan.
The cause of the accident, which took place near a military base in Herat are still being investigated, AFP reported.
The identifications of the soldiers have not yet released.
Two other soldiers were killed in another roadside blast in eastern Afghanistan. No information has been available on the nationalities of the soldiers.
There were some 3,800 Italian troops deployed in Afghanistan. Italy has lost some 40 servicemen in the war in Afghanistan.
The security situation in Afghanistan remains deteriorating over the past few years despite the presence of some 150,000 foreign troops.
The increasing number of troop casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
