Karachi: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday continued hearing Karachi unrest suo motu case after the three days break.
The bench of the apex court, comprising Chief Justice Ifikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Amir Hani Muslim, was hearing the case in the Supreme Court Karachi registry.
Attorney general of Pakistan Moulvi Anwarul Haq said that army could called on request of Provincial or federal govt only.
Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani remarked that do you think army should be called in Karachi? Then AG replied that after the SC notice there is no need to call army in Karachi and any step should be Constitutional.
Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in his remarks said that disaster caused by the heavy rains in interior Sindh is a calamity.
The CJ remarked that it is govt responsibility to provide security and timely help to citizens for early rehabilitation.
He said that Karachi is not a town but like a whole country and time has come to know what is right or wrong.
“I don’t no why people don’t love country”, The CJ siad.
The CJ said that govt should ask their coalition partners to stay away from armed groups.
He said, “Mr. advocate general, Peoples are shifting their investment from the city.”
Representing the federal government senior lawyer Babar Awan said in arguments that Karachi unrest was not a failure of provincial or federal government over which Justice Ghulam Rabbani remarked that if that was not failure then was that success?
Later, the court adjourned the hearing until tomorrow (Wednesday).
