Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the apex court judges should not try to seek jobs after retirement because they get good benefits on completing their services.
Addressing a ceremony held to mark the beginning of new judicial year on Monday, the Chief Justice said that according to the Article 207 of Constitution retired judges cannot take up new jobs for two years after their retirement date.
The CJ said that people had badly suffered due to suspension of the Constitution, adding that the judiciary has also learnt from the crucial time in past and judges would continue to give verdicts without any personal likes or dislikes.
He said that judiciary has defined principles for good governance and the Judicial Commission is doing good job regarding the appointments of new judges.
The lawyers performed a good job in disposing of cases but 19,323 were still pending with the Supreme Court, the CJ said.
