Karachi: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has reiterated its stance that the theft-ridden PMTs against whom huge power bills were also outstanding would neither be repaired nor replaced until outstanding dues were cleared and all illegal means of stealing electricity were brought to an end.
While referring to recent demands and protests on the part of defaulting consumers for restoration of burnt out PMTs, KESC said that the right way was to pay their unpaid bills and stop stealing electricity, says a press statement on Friday.
The extra power load theft had not only been causing frequent burning and blasting of many PMTs which had sucked huge amount of funds for repair and maintenance in the past, but had also been adversely impacting the entire power supply network.
After the attitude of connected consumers of such PMTs had not improved, KESC decided not to supply new PMTs or repair defective PMTs in areas that were plagued by nonpayment and theft, as electricity could not be supplied to consumers for free. These defaulting consumers were in fact causing the load shedding across the city thereby making trouble for the genuine and honest customers.
KESC said that these two evils had adversely been impacting the utility’s performance and ability to improve services. The cash shortfall was also the main reason behind the vicious cycle of load shedding.
KESC urged upon the all such consumers to start paying bills and stop stealing electricity in order to get their power supply restored. KESC has also urged media and other responsible factions of the society to expose such irresponsible power users.
