Karachi: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday adjourned hearing on a suo motu case on Karachi unrest till Thursday (tomorrow). The ISI will brief the Chief Justice in the next session.
A five-member bench of the apex court, comprising Chief Justice Ifiikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani, Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Nasirul Mulk was hearing the case in the Supreme Court Karachi Registry.
Representing an organisation named ‘Friends of Lyari’, senior lawyer Khawaja Naveed presented a report to the court on which the Chief Justice remarked that who made this organisation and did you or Lord Nazir have ever visited Lyari?
Khawaja Naveed told the court that Friends of Lyari was formed by Habib Jan and is registered in London while Lord Nazir is its patron-in-chief.
He spoke the famous words of Habib Jalib “Main kis kay hathon main apna lahu talash karo” in the court, on which the CJ remarked that find it (blood) on own hands.
The Chief Justice remarked that apparently the government had failed while asking DG Rangers why he did not meet with the families of victims.
Director General Rangers Ejaz Chaudhry admitted that it was the duty of Rangers to maintain peace in the metropolis, adding that it was a serious and more complicated than the South Waziristan issue, as he was also the part of Waziristan operation.
The DIG Investigation told the court that on Tuesday (yesterday) a body was found with slit throat, besides few days back another body was found in the Pakistan Bazaar area whose head and hands were missing.
Meanwhile, dozens of people from Lyari gathered at Shaheen Complex near the Supreme Court Karachi Registry office and staged a protest, causing traffic jam on I I Chundrigar road.
DG Rangers said the flags of political parties were being misused in Karachi. He added that a body comprising elders of Karachi should be formed which would be answerable to the chief minister and present a six-month development report before the Sindh High Court
He said that army was a temporary solution to the Karachi issue, while political method was permanent.
