Karachi: President, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Asma Jahangir on Tuesday said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) introduced Bhatta (extortion) culture in Karachi and it was still indulged in minting extortion money.
Submitting before a five-member special bench of the apex court, which is hearing the suo motu case regarding Karachi killings at SC Karachi Registry, the SCBA chief said that MQM initiated an action in Karachi which is followed by other parties.
She said that MQM was involved in deteriorating law and order situation in the city for the last 10 years but no action was being taken against it. She added that everyone knew who killed journalist Wali Khan Babar. She said Rangers interrogate the accused involved in target killings and bhatta  but did not share its findings with police.  She said that army’s interference in government’s affairs was not acceptable at any cost.
She further told the court that over dozen different political, religious, sectarian, jihandi and other groups were indulged in extortion activities in Karachi.
