Islamabad: The government remains defiant, despite receiving Supreme Court orders to bring back IG Gilgit Baltistan Hussain Asghar into the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to conduct Haj scam probe and seems reluctant to respond the apex court over the removal of establishment secretary Sohail Ahmed, who issued notification to bring back Hussain to the FIA despite strong resistance by the government.
A six-member bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry conducted hearing into Haj scam case on Thursday. Director Gen FIA Tehseen Anwar Shah told the court that he personally tried to contact Hussain Asghar but to no avail. He said that he didn’t know where Asghar had gone.
He further told that he was not facing any pressure from any quarter regarding restoration of Hussain Asghar into the agency.
Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq told the court that he had briefed the prime minister about all the aspects of the court orders regarding removal of secretary establishment. He said that the prime minister said he would call him later.
The CJ told the AG to inform the prime minister the court knew its limits. The CJ remarked that practice of not implementing the court orders would not bring any fruit.
The AG sought time till Monday for submitting reply. The court rejecting his plea ruled that the bench would not be in place next week and directed him to submit reply till Friday.
