Gaza: Israeli warplanes have attacked southern part of the Gaza Strip, wounding at least five people, in their latest strike on the coastal sliver. The fresh offensive came only hours after Israeli Air Force F-16 fighter jets carried out five airstrikes against targets in the central and northern areas of Gaza.Similarly on Wednesday, Israeli warplanes pounded the tunnel network in Rafah, south of the enclave, claiming that Palestinian resistance fighters use the tunnels to smuggle in weapons.
Palestinians, however, dismiss such allegations, stressing that the over-three-year Israeli siege forces them to use the underground tunnels to bring in basic living supplies.
Israel has imposed a land, sea, and air blockade on the Gaza strip since 2007, sealing it off from the outside world and leaving some 1.5 million Gazans in dire living circumstances.
