Peshawar: At least 30 Afghan militants were killed and many others injured in Pakistan’s border town Upper Deer when Pakistan Army launched major offensive, on the fourth day of massive infiltration of militants in Pakistani area, sources said on Saturday.
A large number of Afghan militants, armed with heavy weapons, attacked Pakistani border town Upper Deer on Wednesday, setting ablaze many houses and schools.
The sources said that fierce battle between the militants and Pakistani security forces were on in the area. They said that the Pakistan army, backed by paramilitary forces retaliated with befitting manner and engaged the militant to prevent them to launch an attack on the nearby locality.
Last month, the militants from the Afghan areas, largely believed to be members of Swat-based Tehreek-e-Taliban, led by fugitive leader Maulana Fazlullah stormed Upper Deer area, killing more than 30 civilians and injuring several others.
Pakistan has been lodging a strong protest with the Nato-led forces stationed in Afghanistan, over the cross border attacks, claiming that the fugitive Pakistani militants have sanctuaries in Afghan eastern province Kunnar, recently vacated by the foreign forces.
