Peshawar: Pakistani military killed 10 militants during a recently launched offensive in Kurram tribal region near Afghan border, sources said on Wednesday.
The sources said that security forces have cleared central parts of restive Kurram valley , hoisting national flag on government buildings.
Sources in the area told The News Tribe that 10 militants were killed when the forces shelled militants’ hideouts in the area.
Pakistani military on Saturday launched the operation, landing troops in the area, backed by paramilitary forces and air force. Kurram Ageny has long witnessed sectarian violence losing several lives. The area is believed to be new stronghold of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, who lost their sanctuaries in South Waziristan Agency following a military operation.
Sector Commander Brigadier Basharat told media that the forces have gained control of Manto, main stronghold of militants in the area. He added that the army launched on Manto’s mountains from four dimensions. The commander said as many as 35 terrorists have been killed so far in the operation.
