Islamabad: Founding father of Pakistan’s nuclear programme Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan has said that country’s nuclear programme was in safe hands in the past and would be in the same hands in the future.
In an exclusive interview with a magazine, Dr Khan rejected concerns about the security of Pakistan’s nuclear programme and said that all such objections raised by the western countries are mere propaganda.
When asked about the security of nuclear assets in the wake of terrorist attacks on PNS Mehran naval base that led to of killing of 10 security officials and destruction of two US-supplied PC-3 Orian aircraft, Khan said “ from the beginning the country’s nuclear programme was given in the hands of those who were eligible to protect them”. Khan added that a special team, comprising several officials oversees the nuke-programme’s security, if terrorists’ launches an attack, it will be foiled easily”.
Khan who has been in a house arrest over his alleged involvement in illegal activities since 2004, told the magazine that Pakistan has never been involved in nuclear proliferation. Khan says there is no A.Q Khan Network in the world, “Everything being moved in or out is under strict security watch, then how is it possible for anyone to breach such a system” .
Khan largely considered and respected as a great national hero in the South Asian Islamic country says “I have never been involved in nuclear proliferation and never ever worked for parochial interests”.
“I sought pardoned from my nation on the directions of Musharraf and i don’t want to discuss pre-pardon circumstances, Khan said on being asked who made the most of his pardon.
Dr A. Q Khan said he was not trapped by anyone instead he felt he was stabbed in the back.
