Islamabad: Pakistan has expelled 18 British military trainers engaged in training Pakistani forces, a British newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, all 18 British trainers were posted in Pakistan to train the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC). The training scheme was initiated in August last year and was scheduled to continue till 2013.
The newspaper while quoting a British Ministry of Defence spokesperson said most of the trainers have already returned to Britain, confirming the trainers’ expulsion. She added that the team has been withdrawn on a “temporary basis,” and that they will be redeployed at the first possible opportunity.
Since the May 2 US raid on the Abbottabad compound that led to killing of Osama bin Laden, Pakistan expelled 120 US military personnel in addition to these British military trainers.
