Peshawar:At least 11 people were killed and several others injured in a latest series of US drone strikes in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region near Afghan border sources said on Monday.
The sources said that the fresh drone strikes took place on Khar Dand area of lower Kurram Agecny near Afghan border. The sources said that the unmanned aircrafts fired two missiles on a suspected militants vehicle and pounded a residential complex with four missiles. They said that the US predators were still hovering overhead in the area, triggering panic among the residents.
The US rely on its drone campaign run by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in haunting alleged militants in Pakistan’s tribal region while the South Asian country has been opposing the drone strikes publicly saying the attacks prove counter-productive. Security experts say though the Pakistani government denounces the attacks launched by the spy planes, it gave a tacit approval to the US for its campaign.
The US intensified drone attacks after the killing of al-Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad on May 2. The Pakistani Parliament approved resolution in the joint sitting of the parliament that called for an immediate halt of drone strikes.
