Islamabad: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in his policy statement in the National Assembly over US covert operation in Abbottabad that led to killing of Osama bin Laden has said that presence of Osama was the failure of Pakistani intelligence agencies.
He announced that military leadership will give in-camera briefing to the political leadership in a joint session of the parliament on May 13 over the Abbotabad operation.
Gilani said that Adjutant Lieutenant General Javed Iqbal would probe into the matter.
He said that the US operation in Abbottabad give birth to several question.Gilani noted that Pakistan was not birth place of al-Qaeda and invited its chief in the country.
He said that it was necessary to know who was responsible for making al-Qaeda waging Jihad and bringing Osama to Afghanistan.
The prime minister said that the ISI provided basic leads on Osama hideout” let me affirm confidence on Army and the ISI” he said, adding that the ISI is a national assest having full support of the government
Referring to the statement of CIA chief, Gilani said that accusations of incompetence and complicity were absurd.
He said that concerns were being raised on the capability to defend the countries assets. Any covert or overt operation against national assets will meet matching.
The premier said that Tora Bora operation resulted in disbursal of militants who sought hideouts in different countries, including Pakistan.
He added that the ISI arrested more than 240 al-Qaeda operatives, adding that mastermind of 9/11 was also nabbed by the Pakistani spy agency.
He said More than 5,000 civilian and 3000 security officials had sacrificed their lives in fighting against terrorism. Pakistan doesn’t need any recognition form any country for its efforts in eliminating terrorists.
